Cosmic Wonder Free Press 1

Veneer is a young magazine of only nascent repute, and we should should perhaps be minding our own apples; however, this has not prevented us (yet) from fanboy-ing out way hard on the publications of others.

Cosmic Wonder is the fashion arm of Japanese designer Yukinori Maeda's numerous and many-facetedly vague projects, which have names like "COSMIC WONDER Light Source" and "Hidden Path of Light COSMIC WONDER." His runway shows are more like white magic installations, with dresses that take the form of gauzy tents and day-time sleeping bags posing for outfits; they're pastoral scenes.

His first magazine, Cosmic Wonder Free Press 1, with an aesthetic deeply reminiscent of the Whole Earth Catalog, is part manifesto, part monograph. A long article about acheiving a state of White Wizardy through something called "Supermeditation" is almost entirely blacked out. Page after page of white and soft greys give way to a few perfect circles of gold foil and magenta.
