Grifting: BGL

Steven Kado

BGL 1

BGL at Diaz Contemporary in Toronto. Seriously: simultaneously so awesome and funny and so terrible. What the fuck was with the Taxidermied Boxer with studs? Who needs more StarWars art? I am an adult. At the same time: total virtuosos with dripping water, fake ceilings and smoke machines. Quebec?

BGL 2

Do you see that PVC tube? The end of that tube runs to the drain of a water fountain installed on the other side of a wall from where that tube and bucket stand. The coiled hose running through the top of the picture provides the fountain with weird tasting water. The draining water from the fountain ends up in that gross bucket. Also, a smoke machine is triggered after you finish using the water so that smoke comes out as well as water. That is the best.

We Appreciate You

Was there really a taxidermied boxer and if so do you have pictures? I would be interested in viewing that piece.

seriously:

It was bad.

I didn't take pictures of it. It was a boxer staring out a window with metal studs running down it's back. No fun.

I'm no enemy of taxidermy: I liked Friedl's stuffed giraffe at Documenta. I like all that imaginary zoology art. But this was just too 'rock' or something.
