This is an important place. We went out of our way to see it.

Intended to be an educational museum focusing on Dutch colonization, The Tropen creates and maintains very lavish and expensive exhibit displays. Projectors are a dime a dozen. Interactive displays and lcd's abound. I even encountered literal smoke and mirrors, right next to the moving mannequins.

Viewers are encouraged to move through the exhibits that are centered around different geographic areas of Dutch colonization. Those cultural idiosyncratics are exposed in each exhibition through the heavy use of design and technology, interior architecture and spending. It's an exhibitionist's dream.
